National Indoor Air Quality Awareness Month
Zimmetry Environmental provides indoor air quality testing and consulting services to identify and resolve comfort issues and exposure risks to microbial and chemical pollutants.
Bayamon, Puerto Rico, October 18th, 2021 -- Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). With many people spending around 90% of their time indoors, the quality of the air they breathe is a key component to their well-being.
Understanding and controlling common indoor pollutants can help reduce the risk of health concerns for families, students, workers and building occupants. EPA states that health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later. The agency goes to list some of the many different sources of indoor air pollution, including:
· Fuel-burning combustion appliances
· Tobacco products
· Building materials and furnishings as diverse as:
o Deteriorated asbestos-containing insulation
o Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet
o Cabinetry or furniture made of certain pressed wood products
· Products for household cleaning and maintenance, personal care or hobbies
· Central heating and cooling systems and humidification devices
· Excess moisture
· Outdoor sources such as:
o Radon
o Pesticides
o Outdoor air pollution
“October is National Indoor Air Quality Awareness Month in Puerto Rico and across the rest of the United States,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental. “It’s a time for all of us to consider what our families and co-workers are being exposed to each day that could have a negative impact on their health.
